In this workshop, you'll embark on a creative journey to craft unique art by creating custom collage papers and applying them to a special decorative object.
In this workshop you’ll learn:
Introduction to Gel Plate Printing: Begin with an overview of gel plate printing, a dynamic and accessible printmaking technique. Learn how to create intricate patterns and textures using a gel plate, acrylic paints, and various tools.
Collage Paper Crafting: Begin by exploring various techniques for creating your own collage papers. Experiment with a range of materials, including decorative paper, magazines, paint, and specialty adhesives, to craft visually stunning and one-of-a-kind papers.
Selecting and Preparing the Decorative Object: You’ll be working with this…giant 14-sided die? A tetradecagon? Wooden table top decor? We’re not sure what it is exactly, but it has lots of surfaces to cover! Learn how to prepare the surface for optimal adhesion and longevity.
Design and Composition: Dive into the creative process of designing your collage. Explore layout, color harmony, and texture as you arrange your handmade papers onto the chosen object. Discover techniques for achieving balance and visual interest.
Application and Adhesion Techniques: Learn effective techniques for applying your custom collage papers to the decorative object. Gain insights into adhesives, layering, and finishing methods.
Materials and Requirements:
All necessary materials for collage paper-making, objects, and adhesion will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring any special paper, color photo copies of photographs they'd like to incorporate into their collage papers. (To see an example of this technique, see this video) If you have a specific color palette you’d like to work in, I recommend getting either Liquitex or Amsterdam acrylic paint. Golden is nice too, but expensive.
Who Should Attend:
This workshop is open to all artists and crafters. No prior experience is required; all levels of expertise are welcome. Ages 10+
